Sad Girl

Poor little Hayley. Holly went out scrapbooking tonight, which she does about once a month. Normally Hayley’s fine with it, but not tonight. She started bawling as soon as Holly went toward the door, wanting to go with her. I took Hayley so Holly could leave, then held her for a bit. She wouldn’t stop sobbing, though. She must have cried for a good 20 minutes or more. Didn’t want to watch a movie, play, or anything.

Eventually she cried herself out and wanted to go to sleep. I put her down for the night at 7pm, about an hour and a half early. She’s been quiet so far, but I don’t want to guess how early she’ll wake up tomorrow.

In happier news, here’s a cute picture of Hayley pretending she was “married.”

Hayley’s got a new saying. If she wants to do something, and you tell her she can’t, she’ll mope for a second, give a melodramatic sigh, and say “Ooooooooo-kay.” As if the weight of the world is crushing down upon her poor shoulders.

Tonight, while we were playing, she came out of left field with “Hey! Stop drinking my blood!” Do what now? I’m beginning to wonder if reading her Stephen King books every night before bed is a good idea (Ok, I can’t back that up. But it’s still weird to hear her say that).

Pictures

To answer some questions I’ve gotten (Hi Mom and Erika!), I’m trying something new with Hayley’s pictures. Instead of uploading them to my website with iPhoto, I’m uploading them to my Flickr account. I’m then using the Flickr plugin for this blog software to display six of my most recent “Hayley” pictures in the sidebar on the left. So if you see new pictures show up there, you can click the Flickr link and go to all the pictures tagged as being of Hayley.

We’ll see how this works.

Lets Go Canes!

Tonight marked the one Hurricanes game of the season that didn’t interfere with either naptime or bedtime. So all three of us got tickets, put on our red Canes jerseys, and hit the RBC for the 5pm start time. Hayley had a nice long nap in the afternoon, so our hopes were high that she’d do alright.

We made it up to our seats in 328 just in time for the Olympic Sendoff ceremony. We settled in, watched the drop of the puck, then Holly went off to get food. Hayley stayed with me, then snacked on chicken tenders and french fries. She finished a whole tender by herself, which is a rare event.

She was very curious about the game - asking “Daddy, what was that?” or “Daddy, what happened?” every time the crowd cheered a good play, groaned at a missed shot, or booed a penalty. And when we scored, the goal horn hit, and Ric Flair appeared on the jumbotron, she clapped along with the rest of us. She’d also ask “Did the good guys [do whatever], or did the bad guys?”

She was really getting into it by the end - she was actually chanting “Lets Go Canes!” along with everyone else, and clapping to the beat. She was absolutely adorable, didn’t really fuss at all, and we all had a great time.

In other news, Hayley’s new bed came in. Well, most of it. When we ordered the bed, they told us that the drawers in the side of the frame were backordered and would arrive a couple of weeks later. No problem, the drawers’ absence doesn’t prevent the bed from working. Of course, the salesperson was wrong about the part - it was the footboard that was backordered, which meant that the bed couldn’t get put together. Rooms To Go sent us over a temporary bedframe, so we have the headboard and the frame up, with her mattress on top of it. So she’s sleeping in something resembling her new bed, even if a couple of large pieces are currently in my office. The rest of the furniture looks nice, though, and hopefully the footboard will show up in a week or two.

Everybody Walk the Dinosaur

When we offered to get Hayley a new bed, we also had to get new bedding. For some unknown reason, she chose a dinosaur pattern…I guess it’s just another example of her continued long-time fascination with reptiles and amphibians.

Two “pillows” came yesterday; they’re shaped like dinosaurs and if you push one of their feet, they roar. So I wouldn’t exactly call them pillows–they’re more like stuffed animals. But Hayley has been carrying them around and sleeping with them since she got them. She even woke up last night in a panic because she couldn’t find one of the dinosaurs…Wade found it for her and she promptly went back to sleep. We got the comforter set today, but we still don’t have her bed yet, so we’ll wait until next week to open that up.

Hayley has been sleeping better, though, since we put her on the air mattress. I guess she was telling the truth about her leg falling out of bed and waking her up.
