Hayley Teavee

This morning Hayley was watching Nickelodeon, which has a lot of product commercials (cereal, toys, etc.). A show had just gone off, which meant it was time for the commercials for five to ten minutes straight.

I wasn’t really paying attention to the tv, but I had a good laugh when Hayley walked up to me and said, in a completely serious tone:

“Mama, can I have Hidden Key Lucky Charms, a key part of this complete breakfast?”

I think Hayley watches too much tv.

Dream A Little Dream

Hayley woke up this morning sad. I went in and asked her what was wrong. She said “I want to go back to my party with pizza and cake.” I think she had been dreaming about her birthday party (where she had pizza and cake) and was sad when she woke up to find that it wasn’t real. Poor baby girl!

In “poor Daddy” news, I’m not looking forward to tonight. Holly’s going out with some other people in her MOMS club for dinner. Unfortunately, Hayley’s been on a kick the last few weeks where she gets inconsolable if Mommy goes somewhere without her. One time when Holly went to a scrapbooking crop, Hayley cried for a good 45 minutes until she cried herself out and went to sleep at around 7. Holly went to another one last week that started the same way, but Holly ended up taking her with her for a half-hour or so, then I came and got her for bed. That won’t work tonight, so I have a feeling many tears will be shed.

Update: Actually, the night went very smoothly. Holly managed to slip out the door while Hayley was spending a half hour replaying this video over and over on the laptop, then we had a good time playing until bedtime. She was very sweet. Whew!

Bracket Busters

I had Hayley fill out her first NCAA basketball tournament bracket this morning. I told her the two teams in each matchup, and had her pick the winner.

She picked a Final Four of Duke, UCLA, Seton Hall, and Oklahoma, with Seton Hall beating UCLA for the championship.

Other notable picks include Oral Roberts beating Memphis and Hampton (who lost the play-in game) beating Villanova in 16-1 upsets, plus CAA team George Mason winning two games (winning over UNC in the second round).

So if Seton Hall wins, you can line up behind me to get the next lottery numbers.

Zombie Jamboree

Hayley doesn’t stand much chance of escaping being the “weird kid” with me as her father. Case in point: She got a new stuffed Curious George doll from the Estes grandparents this weekend. The monkey’s arms stick out in front of him like a classic zombie pose. So I had Curious George bellow out a cry of “Braaaaaaaaaaaaains” and try to eat the brains of her other stuffed animals.

Hayley loved it, laughing loudly each time. It got to the point where if I didn’t do it, she would grin and say, in her adorable little-girl voice, “Brains?” Which was both insanely cute and somewhat scary.

In addition, her time up in Virginia this past week seems to have affected her speech patterns. I’m not sure which set of relatives did it, but she’s now saying the word “yeah” with about 5 syllables, and it’s coming out as “Yayeayuh.” That Hayley - she was country when country wasn’t cool.

Cough

We’ve been busy working on the house lately, which hasn’t left much time for blogging. And Hayley’s been pretty good while we’ve been scurrying around. She’s had a pretty nasty cough for most of the past week - the doctor sent her home with some antibiotics, but she’s finally getting better.

We hit a fun milestone this past week - Hayley woke up from her nap, went into the bathroom by herself, pulled her pullup down, and went to the bathroom! So now we know she can do it by herself, even though she tends to want us to do it most of the time.

Hayley’s going up to spend a couple of days with Grandma and Grandpa Queen while we paint and redo the carpet. She’ll probably be pretty surprised when she comes home and her house looks different!
