And The Sex Is….

Or, as the arrow so helpfully shows, “I’m A Girl”. So Holly wins the bet. And you know she’s smug about it. :-)

So in about 13 years, I’ll have **two** teenage girls running around the house. Donations for my institutionalization will be accepted starting now.

Just a Baby

Tomorrow we find out (hopefully) whether we’re having a boy or a girl. Daddy thinks it will definitely be a boy, while Mommy is leaning toward girl.

When asked what she thinks the baby will be, Hayley replies, “It’s just going to be a baby.”

But, a boy baby or a girl baby?

“Just a baby.”

Today at the playground, Hayley went up to a stranger (because she’s not at all bashful) who was holding a small infant. She seemed fascinated with the baby and had about a five-minute conversation with the woman. I heard Hayley tell her at one point that she (Hayley) had a baby in HER tummy. No, Hayley…let’s hope that doesn’t happen for a loooooong time.

Duets

We had to vacate the current house today while our Realtor held an open house, so while we were out, we made a trip up to Rolesville to look at the progress on the new house, as well as checking out the town itself to start to figure out where things are.

On Main Street/US 401, a couple miles north of our subdivision, there’s a town park. We had time to kill, so we figured we’d take Hayley to play. The park itself was pretty nice, with a playground, a couple of picnic shelters, new bathrooms, and a walking trail. She had a good time climbing on the equipment and sliding.

She wanted to swing, and there was one of the four swings open. She went and took it. There was an older girl on the swing beside her- maybe 4-5 years old. She didn’t really interact much with Hayley to start with, they were just swinging in opposite directions beside each other.

At one point, though, the other girl started to sing “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star.” Hayley picked right up and joined in, so they sang the song together as they swung! It was adorable. Then, the little girl started singing the ABC song. Hayley didn’t pick it up, so the girl stopped, and started again so that Hayley would start singing too. They sang that one together as well.

Then the girl sang some song that I’d never heard before, but by that time we had to leave for home.

Very cute - I wonder if Hayley will run into that kid again once we move?

Teaching The Unknowable

Hayley, bless her heart, as smart as she is in most things she does, she’s hit a mental block recently.

See, she’s like Daddy in that springtime doesn’t really agree with her. Sneezing, mucous, and a fondness for colds have been a part of this year. And it wouldn’t be so bad, except that she doesn’t know how to blow her nose.

Think about it - it sounds silly, but how do you *teach* someone to blow their nose? Because I’ve tried everything I know, and she’s just not getting it. So she’s got her sinuses full of gunk, and she’s miserable, but she’ll just grab a tissue and dab gingerly at her nose. We say “Hayley - blow your nose,” and she’ll hold it up to her nose and suck in momentarily. “No, out,” we say. “I can’t, *you* do it!” she replies. And on and on it goes. It’s gotten to the point now that she’ll walk upstairs and get the baby nose bulb and take it to Holly when she’s too congested. I’ve tried explaining, showing her how we do it, correcting her technique - nothing works.

Parenting is weird.

Official Announcement

Now that the three-month window and a couple of doctor visits have passed, Holly and I can officially announce that we’re expecting again. We found out we were pregnant in March, so it’s been tough sitting on this for so long. But we’re at 13 weeks now, and everything looks great. You can see for yourself on Flickr.

Estimated due date is November 4, though we’ll have a scheduled C-section, which means we’ll probably go a few days before that. So we may have a Halloween baby. Mmmm…candy and birthday cake on the same day….

We don’t know what “it” is yet - we go in at the end of the month for that ultrasound. My money is on “boy,” while Holly is solidly in the “girl” camp. Get your bets in now. As for Holly, she’s doing better now. Unlike with Hayley, she’d gone through quite a bit of pregnancy nausea this go-round, but it’s finally slacking up.

Now the race is to see what gets here first - the kid or the new house!
