Hayley had her Big Sibling class at Rex Hospital on Saturday. She was in a class with other three-year-olds. They were given 6-pound dolls and shown how to properly hold them and how to change their diaper (even though the instructor told them they probably wouldn’t actually be doing that with their real siblings). Hayley sat right next to the teacher and answered questions and seemed to enjoy the class. Then they watched a video with a silly host about a little girl and her new baby sibling. Then we all went up to the floors with the birthing rooms and the nursery. We saw a few newborn babies–they all seemed so tiny! It’s difficult to know how much Hayley understands about what’s happening and what’s going to happen…she says she understands when you ask her, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t really get what it will be like to have a baby living with us. Guess she’ll find out in a few weeks.
We’re keeping busy with Hayley’s soccer and hockey classes, and Wade’s hockey. Plus, now we’re going to the doctor weekly. We have an appointment tomorrow morning and we’ll go at least once a week until Kate is born. We’ve nearly finished getting the nursery all ready, even though she won’t actually be sleeping in there for the first month at least. But we have the changing table in there ready and most of her little clothes and things put away. I have pretty much everything I need for Kate…now I just need Kate! But I hope she doesn’t come for at least another week. After that, she can come whenever she wants. Of course, it will be easier on everyone if she comes on our scheduled day, but babies can be unpredictable. At most, it will be three weeks from tomorrow before she arrives. Until then, we’ll just keep doing what we need to do, and try to get as much sleep as possible.
