I managed to weasel my way into an on-stage performance (vs. my normal role up in the booth) tonight at ComedySportz. The reason I was so keen to come down from my perch is that the open spot in the show was on a team with Ross and Moser. Two of my favorite people in the world to get on stage with? Count me in.
And we rocked the show. It was tons of fun, helped by the great performances of Messrs. Quinn, Bly, and Brown on the home team, Ted Hobgood rocking it out in the booth, and The Warden in the stripes. A large company party from RTI was there, so the crowd was into it as well. So I think we all stepped up and delivered a fun show.
While I enjoy the mix-it-up dynamic of a ComedySportz show, where different people play together all the time, there’s something to be said for working in a team where you’ve been performing together for years and everyone’s tight. And that’s what it was tonight- stepping back into that anything-can-happen dynamic and seeing where the show would take us.
I’m hoping now that there are signs of dentente coming out of ComedyWorx that it’ll be possible to get JMatt and The Wizard in for a Destroy All Monsters show somtime (hopefully early) in 2006. Hell, maybe even a split weekend with one show in Chapel Hill and one in Raleigh.
I miss the hell out of some Monsters.
