2006 Year-End Update

As I said over at the BabyBlog, the demands of re-new-fatherhood have put a crimp in my free time, and blogging has been one of the first casualties. But I want to get one more post up in 2006, if only to salvage some pride. So here’s what’s been up in the last month or so:

  • LISA ’06 in DC was fun – I don’t know if I made the best class choices, but it was good to go there and get my nerd on with some other sysadmins. Special “props” to Mark for hooking us up with tickets to watch the Caps lay some smack down on Ottawa at the Verizon Center. Hopefully I’ll go back next year.
  • There should be some news on the job front in the next week or so.
  • I finished the first season of the Factory Ice House hockey D-League. I mainly played defense, and started to get a decent comfort level at that position. I scored two goals on the year playing forward, though – the first camping out in the crease and sending a rebound 5-hole, and the second – an absolute garbage goal – when the goalie made a move to freeze the puck, then sent it back into play. Everyone stopped thinking play was dead, but I didn’t hear a whistle, so I roofed it into the open net. Ref said it counted. I kept the puck. I’m going to sit the January-March session out, though, with the time demands of the new baby. I may pick it back up again in Spring.
  • After taking November and most of December off, I’m starting to get back into my half of the Hurricanes season ticket I’m splitting with Fowler. I went to the Florida game right after Christmas, and Rod Brind’Amour Night on Friday. I’ll be going to quite a few games in the next few months, which will be fun.
  • I’m back performing semi-regularly at ComedyWorx, doing one show in December, and I have one on the docket in January.
  • Speaking of both ComedyWorx and the Hurricanes, I’ve set up a working arrangement between the two. CWX performers did some filming with CanesVision for some JumboTron bits back in October, and they’ve used a few of them. We’re working on some other ideas for the new year. So if you go to a Hurricanes game, you may see us up on the screen.
  • Christmas was nice – my parents each got Holly and I framed prints from Lunenburg County artist Eldridge Bagley – a Christmas scene from Mom and a springtime scene from Dad. My big present from Holly was a white Hartford Whalers jersey – awesome.
  • Still no Nintendo Wii for me. Booo.

That should pretty much catch me up on 2006. Hopefully I’ll be a little less slack in the new year.

No Wii, Wade

I got up at 5:45am and headed out to the local target this morning. There was already a crowd. One of the guys said “Are you here for the Wii? There are 15 of them inside, and more than 15 of us here already.”

So I went back home and went to bed. Maybe I’ll try again after the holidays.
