Doldrums
I’m continuing the blogging doldrums, in which I lack motivation to write about much of anything. But here are a few quick hits to prove that I’m still alive:
- I turned 32 earlier this month, which has no real significance other than I’ve now been driving for over half my life.
- Carolina Hurricanes hockey season is upon us this Wednesday. I’m planning on hitting the tailgating with the 328 crew before the game. I got to take Hayley to 2 of the 3 preseason games this year, and she had a good time. She likes it when the Canes score and I lift her up on my shoulders.
- I’m also playing hockey on a real team – the “Crunch” in the Factory Ice House C2 league. I’m a defenseman, and not the worst player on the ice, so that’s all good. And it’s fun, even though we’ve lost 12-2, 15-1, and 9-2 so far this season. We’re a new team and apparently the only one in the league who doesn’t load our lineup with A and B-league ringers, so we’ve got that against us. But it’s cool to get out there on Monday nights and play.
- TeamSnap continues to come along. I’ve got a couple of new features that I’ve put in on my part, such as SSL logins and generic file support. I’m also working on e-commerce stuff, though problems with the old merchant bank have put that on hold for the time being.
- I got stung on the heel by a fire ant outside on Wednesday, and by Friday my left heel and ankle were about 4x their normal size. Damn insects. Went to the doctor, they said that it was getting infected, so I got on some antibiotics. It’s mostly down to a normal size now, but still pretty itchy.
- In other health news, the entire family has been sick this weekend. Holly got it first, on Thursday night, then Kate got it yesterday afternooon. Hayley got it today. I’ve been under the weather today as well, but it looks like I“m going to make it through as the only one in the family not to vomit this weekend. It was a shame to waste such a gorgeous day inside today, but that’s how the illness went.
- I took Hayley as my date to two weddings recently. Last Saturday, we went up to Richmond to see my William and Mary alum friend Melanie get married. I saw a few people I hadn’t seen in a decade, such as Anne, Susanna, and Kim, along with the bride. The wedding was extremely kid-friendly, which was very cool. Then last night (pre-illness), we went to Cary for my ComedyWorx/DSI compatriot (and babysitter of the girls) Amanda’s wedding. Also a lovely event, and Hayley spent so much time beside Amanda I’m sure she felt like Hayley was her kid!
We’ll see if I get inspired to write again before Halloween.
